The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a dare for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate the horror genre: Sit down with your significant other and stream Together. The 2025 indie hit just made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like typical body horror, but within Together lies a deep examination about how we choose to love each other.

A Debut Feature Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for ten years. United in marriage in reality in 2017, the two stars contribute a particular energy to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The plot begins when Tim and Millie relocate from the urban environment to the countryside for her career. A commonly used plot device, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and the protagonists discover an underground cave. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a strange force takes hold of the couple. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a methodically building of scares, blending moments of fever-dream horrors, gross (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Shanks orchestrates these parts expertly and presents them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and distant from his social circle. He fears the idea of completely losing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together refrains from painting Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that are inherent in most partnerships a decade in. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of excessive reliance and fully committing to a partner, the symbolism avoids being hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which is best experienced firsthand, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. On the other hand, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could act as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your significant other and say, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform at present.
