Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Success also indicates he has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on court had caused some to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first professional victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

He saved four initial chances in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
